Communication Platforms

these are a few postcards i've lifted off Postsecret.com

for the uninitiated, postsecret is an ongoing online comunity project in which people mail their secrets anonymously on homemade postcards. People from all over the world decorate postcards, either storebought or handmade and scribble their secrets on it, mailing it to be published on the postsecret website.

i think using this as an communication outlet to express their feelings and emotions is a very novel and refreshing idea. people embrace the anonimity they get, and feel less inhibited and free to share their secrets with the world.
i think part of the charm of postsecret is how unorthodox and refreshing the concept is. it's not a typical communication platform, but it works to give people a place to share their thoughts and feelings.

i think the postsecret blog is a very interesting read, but i wonder if all the secrets posted in are even true?

its true that communication has different platforms, and this postsecret concept really is something that would not strike me as a 'real' communication platform. people send in their thoughts and secrets, but its very one sided as noe one really comments or replies personally to the postcards.

the postsecret blog used to allow people to comment on various postcards displayed on the blog. But some people complained the commenting element made things very judgemental, and some nasty comments were written about certain secrets. the creators took down the commenting feature to retain the 'freedom of speech' element on the blog i guess.

OMG! This so reminds me of my diploma days.

These days, art can take on all kinds of platform the media industry has to offer. My opinion? It's definitely a good sign for the arts scene.

Of course there's 2 sides to everything. Ads will in turn become very gimmicky. Consumers will get the distorted truth.

Seriously, one can't have the cake and eat the cake.

i agree that its great that media platforms are growing, and have evolved into unique forms of communication such as the post secret blog!

postsecret can't really be considered a 'communication platform' because it's very linear in it's interaction. people post in their secrets, other people might read it, but ultimately thats it.

i think it is still considered a sort of communication platform because people do write in, do give their comments, do share their feelings (secrets) with everyone else who wishes to view it.
